PokeRadar

If you want to know a somewhat easy way to get shiny Pokemon, look no further! Starting in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, one of the easiest ways to get a shiny Pokemon is to use a Poke Radar. What is a Poke Radar, you ask? Well, it is a special machine you can get after you obtain the National Dex, that makes random pieces of grass rustle in your area. That rustling means a Pokemon is hiding in that patch of grass. After you battle a certain amount of the same Pokemon in a row, one of the pieces of grass that rustles could sparkle while it is shaking, that means that a shiny Pokemon is waiting!

So, how do you get it? After you defeat the Elite 4 and get the National Pokedex from Professor Rowan, you have to go to Pal Park. It is now open to use, so go inside. There, Professor Oak will give you the PokeRadar.

Lets get on to actually using the PokeRadar. Whenever you use the PokeRadar, you are doing something called Chaining. The whole point of chaining is to walk into a certain patch of grass that contains a Pokemon to battle, and continue to do this many times until you find a shiny Pokemon. The ideal amount of Pokemon that you will have to battle to find a shiny is 40, but it is possible to get one on lower numbers, I found one on a chain of 2 before. To see how many Pokemon you're battled, use application #20 on your Poketch. But be warned, if you walk into a patch of grass and find a different Pokemon than what you have been chaining, it will "break" the chain. Here is an example, say you are chaining Bidoof, and you are up to a chain of 7, but then, a Starly appears. The chain will break, and you will have to start over. Here are some tips to use to make sure that doesn't happen, and you can have a nice long chain:

  1. Always Carry Repels: They will make chaining 1,000 times nicer, by making it impossible for Pokemon to appear, other than in shaking patches.
  2. Bring a Pokemon that knows a move like Super Fang: If you find a shiny and try to weaken it for the capture, you wouldn't want to have it Ko'ed, right?
  3. Walk into the "Right" shaking patches: Always walk into patches that are shaking the same way. So, if you start walking into patches that shake alot, then continue walking into patches that shake that way. Also, only walk into patches that are positioned correctly. I will explain with a diagram:
  4. Poke Radar walking guide

Lets say that your character is the X, and the numbers are how many steps you take outward. Shaking patches in the '4' line are the best patches to step into, because they give you a better chance of finding the same Pokemon. It was proven that this is the best way to continue a chain, unlike previous bits of information saying the patch farthest away is the best. So, imagine that there are shaking patches in the 3 and 4 line. The patch in the 3 line is 6 steps away, but the patch in the 4 line is only 4 steps away. You would go for the patch in the 4 line.

  5. Be Patient! It is a given fact that your chain will break at one time or another, and it sometimes might not get going to be very long for a while, so just be patient! Keep working on the chain, and don't give up, and your Pokeradar skills will improve and get better!

I hope this helps you continue to get shiny Pokemon!
